Born in Madrid, Antonio Najarro trained in classical ballet, escuela bolera, Spanish classical dance, folklore, flamenco, and contemporary dance, graduating with highest honors in Spanish Dance from the Mariemma Royal Professional Conservatory of Dance in Madrid. He made his professional debut at fifteen and by twenty had already created his first choreography. In 1997, he joined what would later become his professional home: the National Ballet of Spain, under the direction of Aurora Pons, Nana Lorca, and Victoria Eugenia. Three years later, under the direction of Aída Gómez, he was promoted to principal dancer and eventually became the director of the Spanish National Ballet (BNE) from 2011 to 2019. He founded his own company in 2002, which resumed operations in 2020. He received the Best Choreographer Award at the 2008 Seville International Spanish Dance and Flamenco Competition, the Harlequin Award for Best Young Choreographer in 2009, and the Max Award for Best Male Dance Performer in 2010, among other accolades. A versatile and multidisciplinary artist, Antonio Najarro regularly creates pieces for leading figures in figure skating, such as the Spaniard Javier Fernández.
